Schaeffler offers a comprehensive product range for solar power plants and has extensive technical expertise in seal technology as well as in materials and coatings.
The precision and robustness of bearing supports make a decisive contribution to achieving maximum efficiency in a tracking system. High rigidity is required for the precise alignment of the reflectors and collectors to the sun and, thus, accurate concentration of the sun’s rays. The bearings must not only withstand local weather conditions, but also high forces and moments, for example during sudden gusts of wind.
Various bearing types can be considered, depending on the type and design of power plant. The bearings are categorized according to their suitability for azimuth and elevation (A/E) axes below:
| Photovoltaics/ |
|Solar thermal systems|
| Photovoltaic |
|Dish Stirling power plants||Solar tower power plants|| Parabolic trough |
| Fresnel |
|Angular contact roller bearings AXS||A/E||A/E||A/E|
|Housing units/Radial insert ball bearings||E||E||E|
|Track rollers/Yoke type track rollers||A||A||E|
|Spherical plain bearings||E||E||E||E||E|
|Plain bearing bushes/shells*||E||E||E||E||E|
|Double axis (azimuth and elevation)||Single axis (elevation)|
