Segment and lock gates represent important applications for INA spherical plain bearings. For wherever concrete and steel meet, foundations will settle, the effects of manufacturing inaccuracies will multiply, and elastic deformations and changes in length due to temperature changes will occur. Water pressure and the weight of the lock act on the spherical plain bearings as a single-direction load. And yet it must be possible to move the gates with low moment levels without delay, even under extreme conditions and after years of disuse.
Maintenance-free ELGOGLIDE®-based spherical plain bearings were designed to withstand extreme loads, and severe temperature fluctuations – that is why they are ideal for hydraulic steel structures, particularly, if very high loads and swivel movements are involved.
Spherical roller bearings have also proved themselves in hydraulic steel structures. They are used where high loads combined with rotary motion are present.
Both bearing types are also capable of supporting tilting motions due to their spherical adjustment facility (accommodation of angular deviations as a result of misalignment and deflection).
